Energy was a captivating moment. As I was shooting the image, the rig hands wives and loved ones busily brought in food. Because of the lighting that was flashing all around, one hand’s wife came to a stop and ask of me to be careful. I am still amazed at her words and concern, as her own loved one was working high up on the rig. Because of her worry for him, she was careful to caution me. These guys are heroes to their families because they are doing whatever it takes to care for them.
The days of long hours and severe weather are barely a disruption. They are just something else to worry about going wrong and fix. As the sparks fly around the rig the calm and safe measures the hands take are just as amazing and inspiring as this shot. The Energy on the rig is just as captivating. In their calm, we should call them eye of the storm. Finally, each man and woman takes measures and precautions to be preventative of what comes next instead of reactive. The families of those men know all too well the importance of safety and attention to detail. They watch out for each other day in and day out.
