Description
In this photograph, Midland Horizon Orange, energy, power, and beauty, all come together to set off a brilliant orange sky. The Midland horizon is as distinct as Houston, Dallas, or even Australia’s, Sydney Opera house, skyline. First, the buildings stand tall in contrast to the flat West Texas, landscape. Then the colors, of our Western Sky, are the perfect backdrop. Finally, the vibrant colors ablaze in this horizon showcase the power of the color orange. In many cultures, orange represents power and energy. In this photograph, the bold color conveys the energy, that drives the Permian Basin. The orange horizon, downtown buildings, and Pumpjack can be a metaphor for the way physics defines energy. It can be converted in form but not created or destroyed.
Three powerful forces are represented in this photograph. First, the fiery Sun. Secondly a vigorous economy. Lastly the icon of the oil industry, the Pumpjack. This mirrors what is underground, fossil fuel. Which makes this horizon possible and feeds the intense activity of the Midland economy. I have a unique point of view of the oil field, I see the beauty in our landscape. I hope I can present it in a way so others can see it too. As the sun sets and the vibrant color spectrum starts to form on the horizon. It sets off the “Tall City” skyline. The Pumpjack stands proudly in front of a Midland Horizon Orange. It is almost expressing a consciousness that in a boom, town, the lively economy comes from oil.
