Often, Tranquility is not what comes to mind when thinking about the oil and gas industry. Things that come to mind are large, loud drills and many moving parts. It brings busy and boisterous scenes to mind, especially when the price of oil is high. Productivity demands constant work and continuous processes. But, there is a treasure about the industry that is not usually seen or experienced by many. There are still and tranquil moments between all the noise, when massive drills gently illuminate the sky.
In this photograph, Tranquility, I wanted to capture the peacefulness of the scene. The drilling rig, though bright, only complimented the soft glow of the nearly full moon. The cratered shadows on the face of the moon shown clearly as it hung among the star-painted sky. The stars, abundant in number, seem to sprinkle down towards the rig, inviting it’s light. The rig, in return, offering it’s base spotlights as additions to the constellations.
Hints of yellow embellish the metal throughout the drilling rig, climbing up the towering structure and adding small bursts of color. Standing underneath the golden moon, the drilling rig shines with a purely white essence of energy. This precious moment really shows the Tranquility side of a high-energy industry, touching on the mechanical beauty of oil and gas production. When the execution of knowledge stands harmoniously within nature, there is quite the sight to behold.
